SANTA on his sleigh and with six of his favourite reindeer from the Cairngorm Herd set the yuletide scene outside city hall.

These wicked elves return with their goodometer a machine which tests how well children large and small have behaved during the previous 12 months. Stay away if you’ve been naughty!

Santa Sundays – 2, 9, 16 & 23 Dec
A special visit by Santa and his reindeer
The first three Santa Sundays have been postponed because of bluetongue disease.

Due to restrictions set by the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) which prohibit movement of the reindeer herd travelling from Stafford to Cardiff, the events planned for Sunday December 2, Sunday December 9, and Sunday December 16 have been regrettably postponed.

As an alternative, on Saturday 22 December and Sunday 23 December from 1.00pm - 3.30pm a new event is planned to be held at bmibaby Cardiff Winter Wonderland featuring a larger Cairngorm reindeer herd with Santa.

The Cairngorm herd of six reindeer can attend because they live in Scotland and presently can travel through the current protection zone. However these circumstances may change if DEFRA alters the restrictions due to a further spread of bluetongue.

Cardiff Council would like to point out to children that there are no restrictions affecting reindeer in Lapland and they will still be able to help Santa deliver all his presents for Christmas. Santa however will be at his magical 60 ft tree grotto in Churchill Way daily until 23rd December without his reindeer. Admission to the grotto is £5.50 per child with two accompanying adults free.
